Éditions 1989 celebrates the launch of the second edition of Who Are You Dorothy Dean?, the first book devoted to the late African American writer and actress. When Dorothy Dean (1932–1987) entered the 1960s New York underground scene, she quickly became one of its key figures—starring in six of Andy Warhol’s films and inspiring the likes of Robert Mapplethorpe and Robert Creeley.
The evening will feature a special screening of Andy Warhol’s Prison (1965), inspired by Bibbe Hansen’s experiences in a juvenile detention center and featuring Dean.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with author Anaïs Ngbanzo and Collier Schorr, who wrote the book’s foreword, moderated by Hugo Bausch Belbachir. Books will be available for purchase and signing!
