Blank City, a film by Céline Danhier
Special 15th Anniversary Screening
Co-presented with Women Under The Influence
Q&A with filmmaker Céline Danhier moderated by Tabitha Denholm (WUTI)
A documentary about the underground filmmaking scene in New York City in the late 1970s through the early-mid 1980s, especially centered in the East Village / Lower East Side. It focuses on the No Wave Cinema and Cinema of Transgression movements – groups of filmmakers who had little money, few resources, often using guerrilla approaches (Super-8 cameras, shooting wherever they could, often without permits), and whose work was raw, experimental, collaborative, tightly intertwined with the punk, art, and music scenes of downtown NYC.
