When he takes a job as a schoolteacher in a new neighborhood, the hapless intellectual Mr. Hekmati quickly discovers he is a fish out of water. With puckish humor and deep tenderness, “Downpour” portrays the cultural tensions coursing through Iran at a pivotal moment in history, shot in luminous monochrome and painstakingly restored from the only known surviving print.
