By popular demand, Chess of the Wind returns to Cinema Tehran at the Roxy.
An atmospheric vision from 1970s Iran, Mohammad Reza Aslani’s gothic tale stands as one of the boldest experiments of the pre-revolutionary Iranian New Wave. Following its disastrous debut at the 1976 Tehran International Film Festival, the film was abruptly pulled from circulation and vanished for decades. Long presumed lost, it has now resurfaced to reveal a haunting portrait of a family on the verge of collapse. Its rediscovery not only restores a missing chapter of Iranian cinema but also confirms the film’s place as a singular visionary masterpiece in world film history.
The feature will be preceded by LIFE (KYANQ), the seminal short film by Armenian filmmaker Artavazd Peleshian.
